The Game of Thrones first episode is set in Winterfell, home to Eddard, Catelyn Stark and their five children, namely Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon. Apart from them, Eddard's illegitimate son Jon Snow, and his hostage and ward Theon Greyjoyare also a part of the Stark family. Ned is informed of a Night's watch ranger who deserted the wall and sentences him to death. He takes his sons to witness the execution. On their way back, the Stark children stumble upon a dead direwolf with her six pups and decide to adopt them, one for each Stark.

While at the castle, Catelyn Stark receives a raven with the news of the death of the Hand of the King, Jon Arryn. The raven also bears the news of King Robert Baratheon and his wife Queen Cersei's impending visit to Winterfell. King Robert plans on asking Ned to be the next hand of the king. The Starks are thrown into preparation to welcome the king and the queen.

When Robert arrives, he immediately asks to visit the crypts of Winterfell where Lyanna Stark, Ned Stark's sister and Robert Baratheon's betrothed is resting. After paying his respects to Lyanna, Robert asks Ned to join their two houses by marrying their children. Ned knows it's an offer he can't refuse. Later, the Starks throw a feast in honor of King Robert. When the feast ends, Maester Luwin informs Ned and Catelyn that Lyssa Arryn has sent a message that the Lannisters murdered Jon Arryn was murdered and King Robert is in danger as well.

Meanwhile, in the free city of Pentos across the Narrow Sea, Viserys Targaryen and Daenerys are planning to forge an alliance with the nomadic Dothraki warrior Khal Drogo. Viserys offers his sister's hand in marriage to Khal Drogo in return of an army he needs to reclaim the Iron Throne. Daenerys is later married to Khal Drogo, and a great celebration is held to commemorate the event. Daenerys receives three petrified dragon eggs as a wedding gift by Magister Illyrio Mopatis.

Game of Thrones Episode 2, Season 1,

The second episode of Game of Thrones picks up a few days later after Bran Stark discovers Jaime Lannister making love with his sister Queen Cersei. To keep their relationship a secret, Jaime throws Bran from the top of the towers, and he is badly wounded. Maester informs that Bran will live, which terrifies and somewhat annoys Jaime and Cersei.

Jon has signed up to join the Night's watch, and Tyrion also plans to visit the wall. Jon Snow asks Winterfell's blacksmith to forge a sword to present as a gift to his sister Arya, who is really excited to receive the gift. After giving away the present, Jon advice Arya on how to use the weapon and to practice every chance she gets. Later, Jon bids farewell to Bran and his stepmother Catelyn.

Eddard also accepts the position of King's hand and decided to travel south to King's Landing with his daughters Arya and Sansa. The parties leave together; Eddard with the girls move towards the south while Jon, Tyrion, and Benjen head north to the wall. On the way south to the capital at Kingsroad, Robert calls Eddard and discusses a pressing matter about Daenerys Targaryen's marriage with Khal Drogo. Ned calms king Robert by saying that the Dothraki warriors will never cross the Narrow Sea, so he has nothing to worry about.

While the elders were discussing the matters of war, the children were having a different tussle altogether. At the Inn at the Crossroads, Joffrey and Sansa decide to go for a walk along the riverbank, where they find Arya practicing sword fight with a butcher's son, Mycha. Joffrey pretends to take offense at Mycha pointing a sword at his betrothed's sister. Things heat up when Arya is outraged at Joffrey, but when Joffrey threatens Arya her direwolf, Nymeria attacks him and bites his arm.

Back in Winterfell, Catelyn who is worried about her son Bran visits the tower to investigate what would have happened. She discovers a strand of blonde hair and suspects that the Lannisters have something to do with the Bran's accident.

Game of Thrones Episode 3, Season 1

The royal party finally arrives at the King's Landing in the third episode of Game of Thrones. Immediately, Lord Eddard Stark is called to the meeting of King's small council that constitutes of the king's Master of Coin, Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger; Grand Maester Pycelle who advises the king on all scientific and academic matters; King's youngest brother Lord Renly Baratheon and Varys the head of king's intelligence network.

Soon Eddard learns that the crown owes six million Gold Dragons in debt, half of it to Tywin Lannister. What makes matters worse is the King's decision to host a lavish tournament in celebration of Eddard's appointment as the hand of the King. Joffrey is advised by his mother, Queen Cersei about the event at the Kingsroad where she tells him that when he is the King, the truth will be whatever he wants it to be. She also asks Joffery to be kind with Sansa. Meanwhile, Sansa and Arya still remain at odds with each other because of the incident earlier.

Catelyn Stark arrives at the Kings Landing along with Ser Rorik to tell Eddard about Jon Arryn's murder. Eddard resolves to find the truth and expose the Lannisters to King Robert. Further in the North at the Wall, Jon Snow shows his worth to his trainer Ser Allister Thorne. Although Thorne is highly disappointed by the performance of rest of the Rangers, he finds hard to gather any praise of Jon Snow's skills and simply dubs him Lord Snow.

In the North at Winterfell, Bran wakes up but has no memory of the accident. Also, his injuries have left him crippled. On the other hand, In the Dothraki Sea Daenerys finds out that she is pregnant and relays the news to Khal Drogo. Daenerys tells Drogo that she thinks they'll have a boy.
